The post-World War II "F"
series of locomotives produced by the Electro-Motive Division (EMD)
of General Motors can be considered one of the most important
groups of diesel locomotives ever manufactured. These
locomotives, almost single-handedly, brought about the end of
steam.
The first "F" units after
the war were the F-2/F-3 Phase 1 versions. They offered an
improved design over the highly-successful FT units that had
revolutionized railroading before and during WWII.
Prototypically, B&O ran
their F-3 phase 2 locomotives as an A-A set. The varied details
between the two units is what made this pairing a unique
experience. Atlas O presents this special B&O 2-pack reflecting
these prototypical differences to give you the most realistic
presentation of the era.
